What’s in those popular hair serum products?
Minoxidil - Very popular hair loss product that can be used orally or topically. Minoxidil belongs to a group of medications used for blood pressure regulation. It comes with a very serious warning that says "May cause serious heart problems or worsen chest pain (angina). This medication is only used when other treatments have not worked well or cannot be taken." It requires secondary medication to prevent the body from holding on to too much water and salt and a heart medication (such as a beta blocker including propranolol) to prevent the heart from working too hard or beating too fast. In other words - it's highly risky and can be incredibly toxic.

Disodium EDTA - Disodium EDTA is the main ingredient in many skin care, cleaning, and personal cleanliness products. In animal research, histopathological examination of a number of organs showed degenerative changes in the liver, kidney, parathyroid, and endocrine organs and edema in muscle, brain, and heart at all levels of treatment. Disodium EDTA in reaction with active and unstable ingredients (such as Vitamin C and sodium bicarbonate/baking soda) forms benzene, a potent carcinogen. EDTA is also becoming an environmental pollutant due to the large quantities used in industrial applications, medical applications, and manufacturing.
